The South Carolina Hurricane Guide is updated annually by SCEMD in collaboration with local and state partners of the S.C. Emergency Response Team. All information contained in the Guide is valid at the time of publishing each year, but is subject to change depending on actual storm conditions.

The Greater Burgess Community Association has earned a reputation as a respected and responsible organization, representing the neighborhoods and residents of Burgess by engaging in a wide range of issues such as current and long range planning; road improvements, storm water drainage and public safety. By interfacing directly with local and state officials, they have become a voice for area residents and businesses.

As a result of the 2020 Census the district maps for the South Carolina House of Representatives as well as the Horry County Council and School Board districts have changed.
The Burgess Community is covered by SC House Districts 68 and 106 and by County Council/School Board Districts 4, 5 and 6.

The Horry County Police Department is a full-service law enforcement agency. Established as the primary county law enforcement agency in 1959 by legislative decree and overwhelmingly re-endorsed by our citizens in a 1998 referendum, the Horry County Police Department is the only remaining county police department in the State of South Carolina.
Horry County Fire Rescue is a combination career-volunteer organization which provides fire suppression, emergency medical services and response to all hazards in the unincorporated areas of Horry County. Horry County covers more than 1,134 square miles. One of the largest tourist destinations in the country, Myrtle Beach, and the entire Grand Strand area is located within the County.
